Ferreting Rabbit holes are netted up with purse nets and ferrets are used to enter the warren and flush the rabbits out into the nets. Sometimes ferrets catch the rabbits under ground, when this happens, the deban MK3 locator is used to track the ferret, dig down and remove the ferret and rabbit. If a dig is required all holes are refilled, making sure the ground is safe for any animals that may walk over it.
Ferreting With Lurchers Lurchers play an important role when working beside ferrets. Having a lurcher being able to mark active rabbit warns really makes a difference, think of the time it takes to net up empty rabbit warns, wait for the ferret to search then remove the nets. The time saved can be put to better use throughout the day. If you have alot of ground to cover lurchers can cover that alot faster, getting to the purse nets before any human and holding the rabbit in place untill someone can get over to dispatch the rabbit. Sometimes rabbits can get free from purse nets, if that happens the lurcher is there just incase, retrieving the rabbit to be dispatched.
Live Traps Live traps are placed the area where the rabbits are known to feed etc, they are mostly baited with vegetables and checked in the morning, afternoon and late at night.
Lamping With Dog/Lurcher A powerfull lamp is used at night to spot rabbits, once in position the lurcher is slipped so it can catch the rabbit and bring it back alive, were it is dispatched humanely as possible.
