DESCRIPTION:On the first Wednesday of every month\, we open one hour early (at 11 a.m.) for veterans to adopt a pet! The Vets Get Pets program from the Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs disburses up to $350 to a qualifying shelters/rescues to cover a veteran’s pet adoption fees. DESCRIPTION:Furrrst Fridays are a tail waggin’ good time. \nEvery First Friday of the month\, NHS partners with the Omaha Public Library to offer reading to shelter pets. \n\n       Kiddos accompanied by an adult can choose a book (or bring their favorite)\n       Pick a dog or cat (or critter) who needs a little attention.\n       Reading to them helps ease anxiety\, and they really like the TLC!\n       We have treats to toss to dogs\n       Often have a few other activities like dog bingo\, or sidewalk chalk decorating!\n\nDrop in any time between 3-6 p.m. to join in on the fun! No registration is needed\, and you can arrive any time between 3-6!

DESCRIPTION:Need a little time to talk about your loss? NHS hosts a pet loss group that is free of charge and meets the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30-7:30 p.m. You can talk\, or just listen … and know that others empathize. \nNo registration is needed. You are welcome to simply show up. \nOur group facilitator is Kendra McCallie\, who has been a mental health therapist for 25 years. She has experience working in hospitals\, community health centers and now\, seventeen years in private practice. She is an animal lover who has also experienced the loss of a beloved pet. She looks forward to bringing together others\, who are grieving their loss\, to share our stories and find support and understanding. \nThis group meets in the NHS Friends Forever room. Friends Forever is located inside the door nearest 90th street on the NHS campus\, located at 8929 Fort Street.

Imagine a day of fun on our meadow that caters to you and your dog.  There is Vendor Village with all kinds of free sponsor swag\, a Family Zone that’s bigger and better than ever\, a silent auction\, an adoption parade\, amazing food\, a thirst-quenching beer garden\, eentertainment and\, of course\, the walk down the Keystone Trail.  You can register and raise money\, or you can arrive that day and just have fun on the meadow. There is no admission fee. \nHelp raise lifesaving funding\, get your official walk T-shirt\, enjoy VIP treatment and\, best of all\,  help save the lives of animals in need. \nStay tuned for more information and registration! \nThis is a great way to get in front of pet-loving people.
